Put Down the Pitchfork, Joe

Monday, November 09, 2009

Yesterday on Fox News Sunday Morning, Senator Joe Lieberman (Idiot-CT) stated that so-called Islamic extremists should be tossed out of the military. Obviously, an Al Qaeda sympathizer should be kicked to the curb, but do we really want someone like Joe Lieberman deciding what brand of Islam qualifies as “extreme”?

Really, in the U.S. Army, this is not a matter of constitutional freedom of speech. If Hasan was showing signs, saying to people that he had become an Islamist extremist, the U.S. Army has to have zero tolerance. He should have been gone.
I don’t hear Lieberman calling for the ouster of Christian and Jewish extremists from the military, even though it surely contains some of those. The 1996 Olympic Park bombing in Atlanta was perpetrated by a Christian extremist, but I don’t hear a call to expel that religious sect entirely.

I am betting this guy was crazy first and a Muslim second. Let’s put down the pitchfork Joe and wait for the adults to finish their investigation.

I think all we know right now is that a guy went to a mosque that happened to be connected to the American Al Qaeda sect.

I don't think that means he was definitely fer sher in on it.

That would be akin to my attending mass at a church where the priest was eventually found to be a molester, and saying I was in on it.

Some people just go to their place of worship, roll out their mats, do their thing, and ditch.

So like you said, Bob, let's let the adults do their investigations first.

And if we're going to start to purge ourselves of "extremists," then I am interested in the definition of extremist, and am interested in whether or not the purge is omnibus, or targeted.

That guy had done all sorts of stuff before he went nuts. I agree that he was a nutcase first, a muslim second, but we should be careful with allowing people that have provable connections to terrorist groups, or groups that act contrary to the US, to be in the military. This would include Christian sects that call for the downfall of the US.

I will wait for the investigation to conclude. That being said, I fail to see the connection between the Olympic Park bombing and this incident. That guy was in the military?

Beg your pardon, steve, you forgot the obligatory epithet for referring to Senator Lieberman.

"I fail to see the connection between the Olympic Park bombing and this incident. That guy was in the military?"

I was just making the case that Christians can be crazy, terrorists too.

Mathew McVeigh - terrorist

Who is that? Tim's brother? ; )

McVeigh, among other things, claimed to be agnostic, so that is a no go.

I am pretty sure Hitler, Genghis Khan, Pol Pot and Darth Vader were Christians.

I think Darth Vader was actually a fundamentalist Forceian extremist. That, and he was the guy who said "this is CNN." Unrelated.

Joe Lieberman is punches dolphins.

DOH!

Oh well, all 'dem McVeighs are alike. Terrrists, every one.

"A bit of a stretch. While the Klan used some religious justifications, their motivations were based more on racism than religion, IMO."

Anyone who isn't a white protestant is on the Klan's hit list.

How is this for a Christian terrorist? Or at least an American Jerk? Just because the guy looked different, and didn't speak English well, he was attacked with a tire iron? I can post a link, if anyone is interested. (HT TPM)

Br. James Patrick

From the St. Petersburg Times ...

A Marine reservist armed with a tire iron beat and chased a man he thought was an Arab terrorist and even called 911 to say he was detaining the man, police said.
But the man he assaulted was actually a Greek Orthodox priest visiting from overseas who spoke limited English, police said.
...
Instead of offering help, Bruce struck the priest on the head with a tire iron, police said.

Father Alexios Marakis ...didn't want to press charges, espousing biblical forgiveness. ... His main worry was that he inconvenienced the others who had to care for him.
