Father of the Year

Tuesday, May 05, 2009

Last week, on April 30, my twins celebrated their first birthday. I was remiss in putting up a blog post for several reasons, but I should have anyway. So...here it is now.

Happy birthday, Jacob and Dominic!

Women (and their ability to tolerate us)

Tuesday, December 30, 2008

Those of you who know me are probably aware that I enjoy some of the simple things in life; poor hygeine, unfortunate wardrobe choices, full days of eating Cheetos and watching TV in my underwear... You know, the basics.

However, I may have to leave these things behind. Over Christmas I asked my girlfriend, BMac's woman, to become Mrs. BMac (Or SheMac, if you will).

(She said yes. Not sure why.)

SheMac (also known as "Jill") is a Michigan State graduate who works down here in South Bend. She drinks Coors Light (strike one), but I've got her into some Brown Ales and Belgians, and she's a big fan of Guinness, so there may be some hope. Plus she's a Democrat, so she's got that going for her.

No date yet for the wedding. The bachelor party starts this week, and runs up until the evening before the wedding. I'm thinking an Ayinger Celebrator in celebration of this occasion, though I'm open to opinions.

Political Memorabilia

Friday, October 03, 2008

I was pretty disappointed that I couldn’t make the Obama rally yesterday in my hometown of East Lansing, MI, but today my day got brighter.

Earlier this year a co-worker, who went to Denver, brought me back, an official limited edition, (Number 9 of 100) Democratic National Convention Poster, signed by the artists. Yesterday, another friend took it with him to the Obama rally and returned it with the signature of none other than the man himself, the next President of the United States, Senator Barack Obama.

The shot above isn’t great, but it’s proof.

Summer Beer Fest & Site Updates

Friday, July 25, 2008

Today is the beginning of the Michigan Brewers Guild Summer Beer Festival! A small cadre of about 12 or 13 of us are piling into a VIP Party Bus, complete with couches and tables, and heading to Ypsilanti, Michigan, to drink to our hearts content. I will take some pix while I am there, and will report Monday. I won't be able to vouch for the quality of the photos, though. Nor of the post, which will possibly be well below our admittedly questionable standards.

So there's that.

There have been some changes here at Around the Keg. All for the better.

First, there are more links. We expanded the brewery links, and will be adding more as I continue to look up their URLs and stick them on. Next, we added a few more blogs to our esteemed blogroll: Christian's "Is This Supposed To Hurt"; Sopor's "Beer, My Universe And Everything"; and ATK Regular George's "I'm Not One To Blog, But...".

The biggest thanks go to ATK Contributor Bob. The sexy new graphic across the top, with our name in colors and different script? Bob.

But the coolest thing is that we now OWN..yes, OWN...the official domain name www.aroundthekeg.com. It's our little piece of real estate on these here tubes. Thanks, Bob.

So enjoy the new look, visit the breweries, frequent the blogs on the blogroll, and revel in the fact that we are officially aroundthekeg.com.

Birthday Times Two!

Wednesday, April 30, 2008

I am thrilled to announce today, April 30, 2008:
Jacob Samuel Smith
6 pounds, 11 ounces

Dominic Steven Smith
7 pounds, 9 ounces.

Mrs. Smitty came out of the c-section just fine, and the twins have each already had a second feeding and are eating like crazy.

We get to stay in lovely Sparrow Hospital until the weekend, when we converge on our home in a testosterone-laden heap of man-flesh.

According to Smitty Jr., the jury is still out on his level of capitvation with his new brothers, but he is showing early signs of coming around. I hink he's proud and joyful, just too "cool" to show it.
