Now we all know that I am nowhere near as politically savvy as the rest of you guys, but I've got to say that Palin did MUCH better in that debate than I expected! Ignoring my own disagreement with her/her ticket's policies... I'd be hard pressed to chose a "winner". I'm real curious to see what you guys think, as I'm sure you'll all have some more valuable insight than I've got!

That's where the expectations game comes in. She'd pretty much set the bar so low that she couldn't have failed unless she accidentally referred to Obama as "that black fella" and drooled on her microphone.
From a Dem point of view, I'm fine with what happened. With teh public's opinion of her is as low as it is, she could make a large jump and still be viewed as below par.
Based on tonight, I would guess McCain won't benefit much. If at all.
Biden's performance was an affirmation of everything we've been saying all along. Palin's performance stopped the bleeding for the McCain campaign. The victory goes to the Dems, even if Palin performed above expectations.

C'mon folks. She sucked. If not making a news-worthy gaffe and only butchering one general's name qualifies as a "tei" then we're in big trouble.
He destroyed her last night. Wasn't even close. She's telegenic and likeable (in theory; I'm not a fan of the winking and goofing around routine)? Fine, make her John McCain's press secretary. She's qualified.

(This is why I, too, am unqualified to be President.)
The question is, are there people who weren't voting for McCain because of Palin? Is it possible that those few people are now persuaded that they can live with McCain now that Palin strung full sentances together? I would say there are a few of those people out there, who likely would have voted for McCain in the end anyway.

So she read and stuck-to her talking points perfectly. Yea for her.
"I'm not going to answer the questions the way you or the Senator might want me to answer them. I'm going to do my own thing, so there".
What the hell? What the heck is the point of a "debate" if you're just going to do whatever the f- you want. I swear, early on I was going to jump through the screen and wring her neck if she avoided the current question and went back to energy or politics one more time.
All in all, I found the whole thing quite boring, but as everyone else has said Palin didn't self-destruct like many expected. Isn't there a way, though, that we can actually force discourse back and forth between the participants, rather than an hour and a half rundown of bullet points about their respective parties? Like, insist they answer the damn question, stay on topic, and stop doing the "actually, that's not true" "in regards to that statement, that isn't what happened" thing.
McCain COULD have lost the election last night. Easily.
The fact that he still has a (weak) pulse this morning is the best news they can pluck from the debate.
If "Darn it" and "Dog gone it" are part of her talking points, she did great. She proved she can recite talking points very well and stick to a script. Personally as a woman and a mother, I felt dumber for her performance. If we are going to have a woman in the White House, I want one who can act the part, be professional and make me want to be like her. Not someone who uses cutesy sayings and winks to distract from what she is saying.
I thought both were fairly mediocre, though I was more disappointed with some of the comments made by Biden in regards to the duties of the VP and Article I of the Constitution. Basically, he made a major factual error (I can post an analysis if anyone wants). While I am willing to let some off the hook, Biden went to law school, was on the Judiciary Committee, taught Con Law, and is a member of the branch of government described in Art. I.
That being said, I don't expect most people to hear about this gaffe, and I expect even fewer people to care.
Isn't there a way, though, that we can actually force discourse back and forth between the participants, rather than an hour and a half rundown of bullet points about their respective parties?
